I would say that it's a very well-managed marathon, and has some good and enthusiastic crowd support. I'm not crazy about the dull scenery of the second half (highway, highway, suburb, highway) but the first half is gorgeous. All in all, I would absolutely recommend it.

I wish I'd been the one to sell the Miller Lite, but it was Karon. Because seriously, I don't think I'd have managed to keep my mouth shut...

Bar work - great for a night or two, but God it can be a brutal way to make a living when you;re trying to throw the troublesome drunks out at two in the morning! :-)

You should have taken the Miller Lite drinker aside and explained the taste difference between ML and actual beer, though...

Being pretty much a non-drinker, I've often 'worked the bar' at parties and stuff - places were the alcohol wasn't being sold, but they didn't want it all disappearing off into someone's car either. It's great fun - you get to meet pretty much everybody and you don't have to worry about making small talk with people you don't really know. Of course, some of them involved the drinks being in bathtubs of ice, so sometimes your hands and arms would be frozen by around 10.30...

Argh! Yes, next time definitely. It has been far, far, far too long. (I have a sneaking suspicion the last time we have seen each other in person was at WorldCon in Baltimore. And that was in 1998. Yikes.)

Arrgh! Missed you by a few days! We were in NYC the previous weekend for Andrew's graduation. Would have been nice to meet up for a drink or coffee and catch up on old times. Next time, next time.

Couldn't agree more about Lynda Barry. It's hard to imagine a more inspiring storyteller in any medium.
